Where is HSR Layout?

HSR Layout sits in south-east Bengaluru, close to where the Outer Ring Road, Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road converge. Koramangala lies to the north-west, Bellandur to the north-east, and BTM Layout to the west. Silk Board Junction — one of the city's most notorious interchanges — sits immediately to the south-west.

That position is the single most important thing to understand about the neighbourhood. HSR Layout is not a destination people pass through on the way somewhere else; it is a pocket of planned residential streets sitting just off three major arteries. You get arterial access without arterial noise, provided you pick the right sector.

How is HSR Layout laid out?

The layout is divided into seven sectors, built on a grid of wide roads and regular intersections — unusual for Bengaluru, where most neighbourhoods grew organically. The sectors have distinct personalities:

• Sectors 1 and 2 carry most of the commercial activity, concentrated along 27th Main Road — the neighbourhood's restaurant and café spine.
• Sectors 3 to 7 are quieter and more residential: tree-lined streets, independent houses and older low-rise apartment blocks, with local amenities close by.
• The outer edges and commercial belts hold the cafés, co-working spaces and offices that gave HSR its reputation.

In practice this means the experience of living in HSR Layout varies noticeably by sector. If you want to walk to dinner, the sectors nearer 27th Main make sense. If you want quiet, the inner sectors deliver it while keeping you a few minutes' drive from the same restaurants.

Does HSR Layout have a metro station?

Not yet — but one is coming. This is the detail most often reported incorrectly, so it is worth stating precisely:

• The HSR Layout metro station is on the Blue Line, part of Phase 2A running along the Outer Ring Road. It is under construction, with an expected opening around December 2026.
• The Yellow Line (RV Road–Bommasandra) is already operational — it opened on 10 August 2025 and runs 19.15 km across 16 stations along Hosur Road. Its nearest station to HSR Layout is Central Silk Board.
• When the Blue Line opens, HSR Layout will interchange with the Yellow Line at Central Silk Board, connecting the neighbourhood to both the Electronic City corridor and, via the Blue Line, the route toward Kempegowda International Airport.

How long are the commutes from HSR Layout?

What is HSR Layout known for?

Startup and café density

HSR Layout built a reputation as one of Bengaluru's earliest startup clusters, and the café culture followed the workforce. Most cafés along and around 27th Main double as informal work spaces, with reliable power backup and Wi-Fi — a practical consideration in a city where both can be intermittent.

Agara Lake

Agara Lake sits on the edge of the layout and functions as the neighbourhood's green lung, with a maintained walking and jogging track around it. It is a genuine amenity rather than a marketing line — early mornings bring walkers, runners and birdwatchers.

A planned grid in an unplanned city

The BDA grid is the quiet advantage. Wide roads, numbered sectors and regular intersections make HSR Layout easier to navigate, easier to give directions in, and less prone to the dead ends and one-way tangles that characterise older parts of Bengaluru.

Who does HSR Layout suit?

• People working along the ORR corridor — Bellandur, Ecospace, Embassy TechVillage and the surrounding tech parks are all within a short drive.
• Professionals relocating to Bengaluru who want a neighbourhood that is legible from day one, with amenities in walking distance.
• Startup and product teams, for the density of peers, cafés and co-working space.
• Longer-stay visitors who would rather live in a functioning neighbourhood than a hotel district.

It suits people less well if you work in the north or west of the city — Whitefield, Hebbal or the CBD are all meaningful cross-city commutes from here, and the Blue Line will only partly change that.
